Call For a Social Media Coordinator!

Are you interested in the cross-section between energy and social justice? Do you enjoy creating content that is bold, innovative and calls out structural inequalities? Then our volunteer position might be a perfect fit. We are looking for a Social Media Coordinator/Curator who can help us develop a social media plan and assist us in creating engaging content so that we can grow our brand. 

By volunteering for us, you can put your skills to work, and support a cause in which you believe in, while gaining valuable experience in energy justice and equity. 

Shift-Catalysts is an innovative nonprofit organization working to create an equitable, regenerative, and democratic energy system grounded in belonging. Founded in 2020 by entrepreneurs Shahed Shafazand & Moah Christensen our team has grown to 7 people. We are an eclectic group with experience in engineering, energy equity, community energy, and Indigenous knowledge. This uniquely combined skill set allows us to bring social justice solutions into the energy system in order to revolutionize the way we produce, use, and manage energy for the well-being of communities, the regeneration of ecosystems, and the ability to live within planetary boundaries.

It is our belief that in order to ensure a just transition that leads to a more equitable and environmentally-friendly energy system we must have a holistic focus. This is why we both work with communities that bear the burden of historical and current injustices, as well as the energy system incumbents, such as utilities, policymakers, and energy producers that have a responsibility to ensure that these injustices are addressed.

As an organization led by women and centered around environmental and just values, we know that our work is stronger when it includes the perspective and knowledge of people who have faced systemic barriers and come from all walks of life. We encourage applications from Racialized Community Members as well as people of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. We are particularly interested in hearing from people with the following skillset but anyone who feels connected to our work is encouraged to apply:

Time commitment: 3-5 hours per week  

  • Proven success in planning, writing, scheduling and sharing social media posts 
  • Creative writing skills
  • Interest in analyzing social media data 
  • Ability to carry our nonprofit’s voice into curated content
  • A degree or relevant experience in journalism, communication, marketing, etc 

Additional skills

  • Experience using Social Media Management Software such as Hootsuite
  • Basic WordPress experience
  • Copywriting experience
  • SEO campaign familiarity
